The Community Center and Reception Hall with spaces for a synagogue and a senior citizen's group provides space for social functions, catering, meeting rooms and offices. The approximately 20,000 sf., three story building is located on a corner lot on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. The corner forms a glass enclosed public space consisting of two double height lobbies with sculptural public stairs connecting the two floors occupied by the two users. Visually the glass enclosed volumes connects to the street and the community. While LEED certification is not a goal, sustainable principles are an important part of the design of this building. Natural light is brought into the interior spaces on the upper floors and the cellar level with the use of skylights. Green roof and landscaping are also being planned. There is no parking required or planned as the users are from the surrounding community and can walk to the center.
